Statement of Faith

What We Believe

Bonnyville Pentecostal Church is affiliated with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada and holds to the essential truths of the Christian faith as revealed in Scripture. We believe these truths form the foundation of our worship, teaching, and life together as a church, guiding how we follow Christ and serve others.

The Word of God

We believe that the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, is the inspired and authoritative Word of God. Scripture reveals God’s will, truth, and redemptive plan for humanity and serves as the final authority in all matters of faith and conduct (2 Timothy 3:16–17; 2 Peter 1:20–21).

The Nature of God

We believe in one true God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is the Creator of heaven and earth, holy and loving, just and faithful, deserving of all worship and obedience (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19).

The Lord Jesus Christ

We believe in the full deity and humanity of the Lord Jesus Christ. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, performed miracles, and willingly gave His life as an atoning sacrifice for sin through the shedding of His blood. He rose bodily from the dead, ascended to the right hand of the Father, and will return again in power and glory (Isaiah 7:14; John 1:1–14; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4; Acts 1:9–11).

Humanity and the Need for Salvation

We believe that humanity was created in the image of God but fell through disobedience, resulting in spiritual death and separation from God. As a result, all people are in need of salvation and restoration through Jesus Christ (Genesis 1:27; Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23).

Salvation Through Christ

We believe that salvation is received through repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Through Christ’s death and resurrection, believers are forgiven, regenerated by the Holy Spirit, justified by grace, and adopted into the family of God (Ephesians 2:8–9; Titus 3:5; Romans 5:1).

The Ordinances of the Church

We believe in the ordinances instituted by Christ: water baptism by immersion, as a public testimony of faith in Christ, and the Lord’s Supper, commemorating His death and proclaiming His return (Matthew 28:19; Romans 6:4; 1 Corinthians 11:23–26).

The Baptism in the Holy Spirit

We believe in the baptism in the Holy Spirit as a distinct experience following salvation, empowering believers for witness and service. This experience is evidenced by the operation of spiritual gifts, including speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives utterance (Acts 1:8; Acts 2:4; Acts 10:44–46).

Sanctification and Christian Living

We believe that sanctification is both an act and a process, whereby believers are set apart for God and empowered by the Holy Spirit to live holy lives. This ongoing work produces spiritual growth and Christlike character as believers yield daily to God’s will (1 Thessalonians 4:3; Galatians 5:16–25).

The Church and Its Mission

We believe the Church is the Body of Christ, called to worship God, proclaim the gospel, make disciples, and serve others in love. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, the Church fulfills Christ’s command to take the message of salvation to all nations (Matthew 28:19–20; Ephesians 4:11–16).

Divine Healing

We believe that divine healing is provided through the atoning work of Christ and is available to believers today through prayer and faith, according to God’s will (Isaiah 53:4–5; James 5:14–15).

The Blessed Hope and Future Things

We believe in the imminent return of Jesus Christ, the resurrection of the dead, and the final judgment. Those who have trusted in Christ will inherit eternal life, and those who reject Him will face eternal separation from God. We look forward to the new heavens and new earth where righteousness dwells and God reigns forever (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17; Revelation 21:1–4).
